A mental disorder, also called a Psychiatric illness, psychological disorder or psychiatric disorder is mental or behavioral pattern that causes either suffering or a poor ability to function in ordinary life. Many disorders are described. Signs and symptoms depend and vary on the causal factors of the specific disorder. The causes of mental disorders are often unclear. Mental disorders are usually defined by a combination of how a person feels acts, thinks or perceives. This may be associated with particular regions or functions of the brain, it’s not a just matter of behavioral problem – and therefore it must be treated in the right manner (as any other disease or condition is) by a team of mental health professionals.
Treating or therapy for mental illnesses depends on the type of mental illness, its severity and what works best for the client. In many cases, a combination of therapies works best. If a client has a mild mental illness with well-controlled symptoms, therapy from one health care provider may be sufficient. However, often a team approach is appropriate to ensure all your psychiatric, medical and social needs are met. This is especially important for severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia.
